Sewa International is dedicated to collaboration and community involvement to support distressed families during times of disaster. We offer comprehensive services including volunteer assistance and organizing essential items such as cooked food, groceries, blankets, and clothing. As proud first responders, we have actively participated in relief efforts for the past three natural disasters in KZN, including flooding and informal settlement fires.

Tongaat Tornado Relief

Sewa International SA provided critical aid to communities affected by the Tongaat tornado in June 2024. Here’s an overview of our efforts:

Reconstruction, Cleaning and Handover:

  • Cleared 60 tons of rubble and fixed structural damage to 15 homes.
  • Scope of Work: o Repaired roofs and replaced gutters. o Installed glass windows, doors, and locks. o Replaced ceilings and cornices.

Extended Scope of Work:

  • Strengthened structures through wall stitching and underpinning.
  • Replaced external doors and implemented drainage systems.
  • Ensured homes were safe, livable, and structurally sound.

Kennedy Road

Sewa International SA recently partnered with various NPOs from diverse backgrounds to deliver critical ground relief to the Kennedy Road community after adevastating fire destroyed more than 1,000 homes and left over 2,000 people homeless overnight. Our relief efforts included:

  • 4 Tons of Building Material
  • Over 1,000 Meals
  • Fruits and Vegetables
  • 200 Blankets

Through these collaborative efforts, Sewa International continues to provide timely and essential support to communities in need, ensuring that those affected by disasters receive the help they urgently require.

KZN Flooding

During the devastating April 2022 floods in KwaZulu Natal, Sewa International swiftly responded by distributing essential drinking water worth R480,000 to the hardest-hit areas. Our relief efforts included:

  • 12,936 bottles of 5 liters each
  • 19,008 bottles of 1.5 liters each
  • 13 rainwater harvesting tanks of 5,000 liters each

In the June 2023 torrential rains, we assisted stranded individuals by providing shelter and distributing aid the next day. Our relief included:

  • 2,550 cooked meals
  • 200 blankets
  • 350 grocery hampers
